Photo credit: Douglas Grimes<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Subtle Signs of Grapevines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;signs of grapevines throughout Georgia are pervasive.&nbsp;Georgians originally were sun worshippers, believing the sun\u2019s chosen plant was the grape vine. St. Nino, who brought Christianity to Georgia, was said to have made a cross of grape vines bound together with her hair,&nbsp;symbolizing the sun\u2019s rays. Here you can take a tour of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pheasantstears.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pheasant\u2019s Tears Winery<\/a>, producing organic wines from varietal grapes that grow well in the Kakhetian micro-region. You can also&nbsp;visit the cellars where the wines are macerated&nbsp;in huge ceramic vessels lined with beeswax. Tsinandali Village is best known for the family\u00a0estate of Alexander Chavchavadze.\u00a0A 19th century Georgian aristocrat and poet, Chavchavadze kept an estate that was a center of the intellectual life of the time. Photo credit: Devin Connolly<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Spirits of Armenia<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mircorp.com\/trip\/village-traditions-of-the-south-caucasus\/\">Armenia\u2019s capital, Yerevan<\/a>, boasts the\u00a0Yerevan Brandy Factory. <\/strong>From 1953 until 1991, Yerevan Brandy Factory was the\u00a0sole brandy distillery in all of Armenia. Although that has changed and the original complex has split into the\u00a0Yerevan Brandy Factory and the Yerevan Wine Factory, the factory still produces brandy to the rigid national standards that so impressed\u00a0Winston Churchill that he allegedly ordered 400 bottles per year.
